Sally Swanson Architects In cooperation with the County of Santa Clara and the County Probation Department, SSA provided complete architectural services for a new education and administration building at this minimum-security juvenile detention center. Throughout the design process, two fundamental concerns guided the team's thinking: occupant safety and resource conservation. As a result, the final building is thoroughly user-friendly. In terms of safety, its strong sightlines and lack of concealed or obscured areas effectively address potential dangers to staff and residents. Additionally, SSA examined how to best use natural light and ventilation. This produced a dual success: it helped establish an environment that supports personal growth and education, and it promoted overall energy efficiency.
