Sally Swanson Architects
Monterey Peninsula Unified School District

Seaside, CA

Over several years and three phases, SSA will be responsible for the modernization of 8 separate elementary, middle, and high school facilities in a school district that serves close to 20,000 students. The project originated as a limited-budget, life safety and accessibility upgrade, which required close coordination with school officials and a construction manager to establish a scope of work. This programming exercise was essential to the overall success of the project. In collaboration with the two other architects working on the district’s remaining facilities, SSA helped standardize the specifications to be used for design and construction throughout the district. In so doing, SSA provided a reliable way of achieving equity amongst the school district’s diverse facilities, while ensuring each school could meet its most urgent needs.
